Welcome to my “About Me” page!

Hi, my name is Afra. I am currently a student at UC Berkeley studying Cognitive Science. My hometown is Hong Kong, but I lived in Irvine for the majority of my life until college.

I have lots of aspirations in life, but one of my biggest would be to contribute to the healthcare community with my unique talent in empathy. Ever since I was a little kid, I felt as if I can read people’s minds and many people would describe me as “Joy” from the movie Inside Out because I was very positive and altruistic growing up. As I grew older, I was trying to find a career that will fit and benefit from someone who is empathizing. AND YAY! That’s when I found my new best friend in life — Figma… All jokes! Of course I meant to say User Experience Design and Research. With my experience of losing my father to cancer as a 13-year-old, doing good to the community, especially in healthcare/ cancer care, is extremely important to me. I hope that wrapped up why I am interested in the Healthtech field!

Outside of serious business, I am a huge adrenaline junkie. I may look all smiley, but I love skiing down double black diamonds, surfing near rocks, snorkeling in open seas and rock climbing! And if that doesn’t prove that I work great under pressure (aka design sprints!) and am passionate in striving for the peaks (pun intended), I don’t know what will!
